New Year, New Me!

Hi, Hello! My name is Sarah - the writer behind redgregory.com. I'm officially exiting the first month of nearly daily content churn out and I'm happy to admit it's finally getting easy. Red Gregory feels like it's coming together nicely, gaining substantial viewership and the backend hardships are just about dealt with.
2020 is upon us - a new decade, a fresh start, a new perspective and every other cliche. Planning junkies are jumping for their fancy calendar apps and moleskines, students are collecting their highlighters and creators are waist deep in content calendars. I'm doing all of the above.
I call this week the "recovery" period. The last couple months have been emotional and hectic. I've found myself calm for the first time in a while - and productive as well. I'm a Red Bull, last minute, work best under pressure type of worker. But I've found the tranquility to be far more effective than chaos in the long run.
My 2020 plan is to slow down and focus on self-improvement over big projects and making connections (2019 had enough of this action).

My Goals For The New Year!

  • Annual Aim: Read 100 books
  • Realistic Goal: Read everyday
This will be the biggest challenge of the year. The ideal outcome of reading 100 books, besides enrichment, allows me to focus on a task for over an hour without looking at my phone.

  • Annual Aim: Write a story
  • Realistic Goal: Write 250 words / day
Actually, I would like to write a book. The word book is extraordinarily stressful though. Let's stick with story. Ideally, 250 words per day will put me at 20,000 words in roughly 3 months - a nice rough draft.
  • Annual Aim: Develop a robust Wiki
  • Realistic Goal: Create a mini Wiki for media consumed

As an addition to my C.O.D.E system, or second brain, I will be implementing Wiki development as my "express" component. These Wikis will be fairly straight forward, database style with tidbits of text here and there.
For example, I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series and will be tracking characters, story development, spells, quotes etc. into a cute little dashboard.
I want to do do this with most media I consume that I'd like to retain. And yes, I will make them public. 😁
  • Annual Aim: Create results from side hustle (Red Gregory)
  • Realistic Goal: Update website frequently, write weekly newsletter
Red Gregory will be my side hustle for 2020. I didn't have one in 2019 and I believe that's why my day job became so tiresome. Don't get me wrong, I love my job but the backend tech field can lack the ... how do I say ... pizzaz that I'm looking for.

Red Gregory Goals Update

Last week's goals
  1. Keep it simple!
      • I'm learning how to use Notion as much as anyone else. The app is relatively new in the grand scheme of things. I don't want to come off as an "expert" or even a productivity guru. 🤷‍♀️ I just want to share cool things I'm making on the app with straight forward explanations and formulas to copy and paste into the reader's own database.
      • I want Red Gregory to act as a place for inspiration. The effectiveness of productivity systems relies on the unique requirements of the user, of which one template is not one size fits all.
      • To Do 🚀
        • Create some kind of separation between images and text.
Add "All Articles" button below featured articles.
          Custom featured images (illustration)
  1. Create YouTube content!
      • I don't really know how to go about this ... possibly sit down style videos. But what will I talk about? Productivity? No ... we've already established, I'm not much of an expert in that field. Notion? Sure, I'll use Notion a lot in my videos but I don't want to confine my niche to "how to" videos.
      • Solution 💡→ Vlog through my work day as I wade through client work, life learning, inspiration & how I use Notion as a second brain for everything.
  1. Get on Twitter
      • I've never had a twitter account. I literally have no explanation for this. It's embarrassing frankly. 🙈

  1. I managed to simplify Red Gregory quite a bit. I removed the "curated templates" section because the turnaround rate of public templates from google results are slim (more people need to make their templates public for this to work).
  1. I'm still contemplating the YouTube goal - perhaps a mission for the next couple months.
    1. Buy a nice camera
  1. Yes! I'm finally on Twitter. You can follow me here.
