How to navigate the forgetting curve outside of a school setting? Iβm experimenting with how to retain information efficiently without the incentive of a good grade or authoritative oversight upon my studies. I find the dilemma similar to working for myself. With no goal to reach that has a definite consequence upon failure, my drive pitters away.
Spaced repetition is certainly the answer. I only wish to create a repetition schedule that works for me and promotes some kind of incentive for doing so. After skimming through the works of the man who pioneered today's popular spaced repetition, Mr. Ebbinghaus, and a few gurus on the web who know more about this than me, I figured I'd use a repetition schedule like this:
- 1 hour
- 9 hours β half-day
- 24 hours
- 72 hours
- 1 week
- 20 days
Note: I want to create a better spaced-repetition table in Notion. I have an old one somewhere in the sea of templates Toggle Recall Method, but I'm sure it isn't up to par.
As for an incentive, I suppose I will use Notion for that. Tracking streaks and habits in Notion is enticing. However, I may have to find another element to really keep me on track. I'll create my spaced-repetition system in Notion and execute testing in RemNote.
