Notion Is Growing & Here's Where I See It Going

I've noticed in the short time I've been inside the Notion world (since September 2019) that this app has blown up quite a bit. I remember logging onto the sub-reddit and seeing 50 to 60 people online. Now, it rarely dips below 120. How exciting! I'm glad more and more people are seeing the potential of Notion.so.
And with this growth, I predict the following will happen:
  • First of all, with API integration, sky's the limit in regards to creative projects, community growth, and more corporate integration.
  • New productivity systems will emerge from the community that will extend the classic GTD systems (ie. gamifying and personal growth roadmapping)
  • More businesses will integrate Slack with Notion primarily.
  • More influencers are going to get on board and share their use cases, creating a lot of hype in the trendy study-tube (YouTube) sphere and beyond.
  • If spreadsheet and basic modeling capabilities are added to databases (a hybrid I hope for), financial forecasting and more robust endeavors will make the all-in-one app unstoppable.
  • Creating "second-brains" and organizing data will become appealing to the average person, a healthy response system to the anti-truth information age we're currently in.

Advice To 20 Yr-Old Me From 25 Yr-Old Me

Aimlessness Is A Virtue

Don't get caught up in what you're supposed to do based on a set of ambitious and specific goals dictated by others or yourself. You are not lazy, rather, undergoing the "trial and error" phase. Embrace it, learn from it, then choose your life path (of which will change indefinitely over a lifetime). Essentially, embrace uncertainty.

Just Do It, Damnit

Do scary things. That's it.

Make A Doctor's Appointment & Don't Cancel It

With that being said, don't neglect your health over phone-call-phobia, especially in regards to the dentist. Your cavities are nasty. I get it, the dentist sucks. We all hated going as a kid but we're big girls and boys now. Let's try to make it to 30 with a full set of teeth.

Work On Your Credit Score

Student loan debt is a bitch, but you know what's even more of a bitch? Not being able to get a car, apartment, and in a lot of cases, a good job.

Figure Out You

Self-explanatory. Get your personality in check. Figure out what makes you you and don't let anyone sway you into being someone else. This is a lot easier said than done. Here are some tips:
  • When faced with hardship, do not adapt and find the easy way out. Know your values and address the situation with a unique voice.
  • Don't do that annoying thing where you're one person with a significant other or stranger and polar opposite with friends and family - or vice-versa. This shit gets exhausting. Remain consistent.

Talk To People

Good lord, just say hi. People don't bite. If you fuck up, who cares? Stop worrying so much about social situations. Everybody's weird. You're not alone.

Text People Back!

Life isn't too busy to shoot a quick text to a friend. With that being said, responding to emails shouldn't consume your brain space. Practice balance in regards to communication.

Get Out Of The House

At the very least, take a walk. At the very most, go on a trip. Just get out. Just because you are a freelancer or work primarily facing a computer screen, there's no excuse to at least take a single break every day to get out and grab a coffee with a friend or go on a walk.

You Will Never Be An Expert On A Lot Of Things

Stop spreading yourself thin. Focus on your strengths and what makes you happy. Being moderately proficient in certain fields and an expert at one is the best way to look at your professional future. It's also OKAY to have weaknesses.

My Mood This Week

I'm planning to track my mood through the entire year in order to better understand what is making my poor days poor and what I need to do to fix them - hence, the "cause" property.
